After months of staying quiet following his casting as DC universe super-villain Lex Luthor, actor Jessie Eisenberg is finally opening up about the challenges and impressions of the character. In an interview with Total Film magazine, the Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice star talks about playing Lex.

There are some indications of how the character should behave based on the script, and then an actor makes it his or her own. I got to know one of the writers really well, Chris Terrio, and we were able to discuss things at length and figure out who this person is to create a real psychology behind what is, perhaps, in a comic book, a less than totally modern psychology. I can only say I’ve been asked to play an interesting role: a complicated, challenging person.”

An equally interesting revelation from the interview found that Eisenberg had never seen a superhero movie or read a comic book prior to being cast as Lex Luthor. Since then, the actor has apparently been reading more material that features Luthor and the rest of the DC universe.

If you recall, Batman-news.com reported in June about the interpretation of the Luthor character in Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, describing “Eisenberg’s Luthor has jittery mannerisms, like a 20-something guy that pounds energy drinks all day. Lex Luthor may not be bald either, Eisenberg was sporting long, wavy, dirty blonde hair in the scenes he shot in June.”

Dawn of Justice opens March 2016.
