RUMOR: Shazam movie to begin production, no Black Adam

With the comic industry’s greatest event just one day away from kicking off, we’re getting the usual ramp-up in speculation and rumors–with this one concerning the DC Extended Universe (DCEU).

While SHAZAM! was initially included in Warner Bros. DCEU movie slate, director issues, script issues and the sort has prevented this project from getting off the ground. In fact, there still isn’t even an actor in place to play the title character. But according to The Wrap’s Umberto Gonzalez, that will soon be changing.

Gonzalez states that the Shazam movie will go into production early next year:

While it’s certainly good news (if true), the shocking news is that Shazam’s famous arch-nemesis, Black Adam, who is being played by Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, won’t be appearing in the film.

Despite this development, Johnson has been very free in expressing his excitement for the character of Black Adam.

“One of the most powerful anti-heroes on the planet is coming. And he is coming in hot. Brace yourself for BLACK ADAM! It’s a new dawn.

“Had a very cool and strategic meeting with the heads of DC about their entire universe. As a hard core DC fan, to get a real sense of the tonal shifts and developments coming in these future movies has me fired up. Something we, as DC fans have all been waiting for for a very long time. Hope, optimism & FUN. Even when talking about the the most ruthless villain/anti-hero of all time finally coming to life. Prepare yourselves DC Universe.”

Captain Marvel and Black Adam are both based on the Fawcett Comics characters created by C. C. Beck, Bill Parker, and Otto Binder.

Stay tuned.

This would be crazy. Black Adam needs to be in it.
