Thor: Ragnarok to ‘Hulk’ smash the box office this weekend

It appears Marvel Studios has another feather to add their their now very feathery cap.

With Thor: Ragnarok, the third installment of the Thor trilogy (bet you never thought you’d see the day that Thor would have a trilogy), Disney and Marvel Studios are getting their wallets ready for a huge weekend. According to Deadline, the film is tracking for a $100 weekend:

“No, moviegoing is not dead, despite summer seeing its lowest ticket sales in 11 years,” states Deadline. It’s just a product-run business and audiences need something worthy that justifies stepping away from Netflix and a 70″ 4K HDTV. Enter, Disney/Marvel’s Thor: Ragnarok, the best of the three, and it’s poised to make per industry estimates $41M today (including last night’s $14.5M) and $104M for the weekend at 4,080 further lifted by Imax, PLF, D-Box and 3D formats.”

As Deadline reports, the film already brought in $14.5 million with Thursday night sales–which is usually a sign that the film has the making for a long run, which will be interesting to watch with Justice League coming out soon as well.

The film’s official synopsis reads: “Imprisoned on the other side of the universe, the mighty Thor finds himself in a deadly gladiatorial contest that pits him against the Hulk, his former ally and fellow Avenger. Thor’s quest for survival leads him in a race against time to prevent the all-powerful Hela from destroying his home world and the Asgardian civilization.”
